Mobile Phone Applications

May 27th, 2008 · No Comments

What’s the future in technology and gadgets for mobile phones?

It’s pretty much standard technology now to have a camera and a music player as part of the phone capability.

Wifi capability and video playback are also widely available with 3G handsets.

Applications that are available now and likely to become standard include GPS and maps. Nokia have just announced free downloadable maps to their handsets.

Of course the ideas and the technology that could be part of a mobile phone stretch well beyond the applications we currently have even though mobile phone technology has advanced at a pretty fast pace.

The size of the keypad and the screen has been an inhibitor. You have to be able to get data in and view it and both these tasks have to be able to be done in a usable manner.

A promising technology on the horizon is the micro-projector where the screen isn’t restricted to something that is part of the phone but instead is projected onto a flat surface like a nearby wall.

It seems like the main factor holding this technology back is the battery power required and the difficulties of getting this power within a phone.
